If your package hits an unusually low approval rate after round 1 (less than 10%), the status switches to "refining" and we take a step back before running round 2.
Why it happens
Low approval rates usually mean one thing: we sent the track to the wrong curators. That's almost always because the genre on the submission doesn't quite match what the track actually sounds like. Happens more than you'd think. A track tagged as indie might actually sit closer to lo-fi; a song tagged hip-hop might be more R&B in practice.
What we do
We queue your track in our Hot or Not community, which is a pool of fellow artists who quickly vote on what genres a track actually fits. This gives us a cleaner read on your song's real sound, straight from other musicians.
How long it takes
Usually a couple of days to get enough votes in. During that time, your package sits in "refining" status.
What happens next
Once the voting wraps, we retarget your track using the new genre information and launch round 2. From there, it's back on the normal timeline.
