The "Genre Match" is our best attempt at lining up your song with the curators who will enjoy it.
Figuring out which genres a curator likes
When a curator joins SubmitHub they get to choose the genres that they want to receive. They can select a maximum of ~50 genres (out of 200+ options).
As they start rejecting and approving songs, we get a better idea of which genres they like more, and which genres they like less.
A number of other factors go into determining how likely they are to approve a specific genre, including comparisons to peers, moods, similar artists, lyrics, and how many genres they have selected overall (for example, a curator who chooses only 5 genres instead of the maximum 50 is probably very keen on those 5).
Time window for per-genre approval percentages
The approval percentage shown next to each genre on a curator's profile (the actual percent of submissions in that genre they've approved) reflects roughly the last 6 months. Older history isn't included; the goal is to surface their current taste, not their all-time record. This per-genre percentage is one of the inputs into the Genre Match score below, but they're not the same thing.
Bringing it back to your submission
When you submit a song we ask you to choose up to 3 genres. We then look at all the curators who accept at least 1 of these genres, and rank them from high to low depending on their history within that genre.
If we give them a "genre match" score of 8/10 (or higher), it means that they gravitate toward the genres you've selected for your submission. If they have a genre match score of 4 or lower, we recommend skipping them unless you think there's another strong reason for submitting to them.
