Genre Validation

Genre Validation is a Hot or Not request type where, instead of asking voters for a score and written feedback, you ask them to validate which genres best describe your track. Useful if you're not sure how to tag your song or you've gotten pushback on the genre you picked.

How it works (as a voter)

When you open a Genre Validation request in Hot or Not:

  1. You see the song plus 6 genre options the submitter chose
  2. Listen for at least 30 seconds
  3. Score the song 1-100
  4. Select all genres that apply (up to 3). If none of the offered options fit, hit "None of these fit? Pick the right genre" to open the full genre picker and choose from there. Custom picks count the same as the offered chips and toward the same 3-vote cap.
  5. Submit

No written feedback is required for genre votes.

How it works (as a submitter)

From your song's page, pick "Genre Validation" as the request type (instead of Feedback). You choose 3 genres you think describe your track. We combine those with 3 additional options to give voters 6 total. Voters can also pick a custom genre from our full list if none of the 6 fit, so don't be surprised to see a tag in your results that wasn't one of the original 6 options.

After votes come in, you see a tally of which genres got the most selections across all reviewers: a crowdsourced read on where your track actually fits.

Who can use it?

Anyone. Both requesting and voting are open to all Hot or Not users. And just like Feedback ratings, each Genre Validation vote you cast counts toward your earned ratings and premium credit bonuses.
