Editing targeting after your ad is live
Some targeting can be changed on a live ad, some can't. Here's the breakdown.
What you can change
- Age range: open the ad and adjust the slider. Narrow the bracket if your performance breakdown shows a specific age group is driving your results.
- Regions and countries: open the targeting tab and hit "Edit" next to your regions. You can add or swap countries (or switch to local cities) any time. You'll see a warning when you save: Meta may restart its learning process for a couple of days.
What you can't change
- Genres: locked in at launch, since they shape how we build the audience. If you need to change them, launch a new ad (or duplicate the existing one as a starting point).
- Artist interests: editable only while the ad is in review or draft. Once it's live they lock in, but they only ever influence the initial audience build; Meta's own optimization takes over from there, so editing them mid-flight wouldn't change much anyway.
Heads-up on the learning phase
Both age and region edits can reset Meta's learning phase, which means performance can wobble for a couple of days while it recalibrates. Only tweak them if you're reasonably sure the change will help. See the learning phase article for more.
What about creatives?
You can also change what's running on the creative side: add new videos, pause individual creatives, or stop us from generating more automatic ones. See the "Where can I see my ad visuals?" and "Editing creatives after launch" articles for that side.
