A normal submission spends credits and joins the curator's daily queue alongside everyone else's. Direct is a private page the curator shares themselves: they listen to your whole song, write you a longer reply, and answer within a window they've committed to. It's usually not either/or, you found the curator somewhere and this is how you reach them.
