Genre Analytics & Tips

Our Genre Analytics section flies under the radar, but it's been around for quite a while. If you've come across it, you might have seen your genre's "popularity" and your own "chances" – from the number of submissions last month to the percentage of approved songs within that.

For example:

  • Electro Swing doesn’t appear to be very popular with curators, with an approval rate of 13%
  • On the other hand, Solo Piano has been at or near the top for a looong time, with average approval rates currently at a whopping 59% (as of June 2024)

Recent updates

In July of 2024 we added two new columns: Song duration and Percent listened.

  • Song duration: Compare your track length to the average of your genre to see if that could be influencing its success
  • Percent listened: Understand how long curators typically listen to your genre. There are genres with shorter listening spans (like Noise/Harsh Noise Wall or Minimal House), but also ones curators listen close to 90% of the total length (as of June 2024: ASMR, African Hip-Hop, or Glam / Hair Metal)

Note: We've removed the number of approved songs column, as it was kind of redundant. Instead, we kept the overall submission numbers and approval percentages.

Good to know

  • The Genres Analytics updates on the first of every month, showcasing data from the previous month. Some genres can change drastically – seasonal ones like Holiday Music vary greatly between July and November/December. You can check regularly to spot trends in your genre(s)
  • You can sort the chart by clicking on columns to see which genres have the most or least submissions, highest or lowest approval rates, number of curators, average track lengths and listening percentages
  • There's no special button to access this chart as of now, so be sure to bookmark “submithub.com/genre-analytics” for easy access
Pro Tip: For genres with lower listening percentages, emphasize the best parts of your song that suit specific playlists or the blogger's style, ideally in your Quick pitch and/or the optional Requested topic that goes with Honest feedback.
