Influencer updates

It's been just over two years since our last influencer overhaul, so this one's been stewing for quite some time. Today, a number of changes were rolled out, including these highlights:

  • There's a new "Really Good Influencers" program that pays extra to our best influencers
  • No more Instagram Story shares
  • Prices are switching to a per-1000-views model and, in general, going way up
  • Better genre filtering

New program: "Really Good Influencers"

Are you sharing great content? Now you can get paid more!

The "Really Good Influencers" (RGI) program rewards influencers who create videos that follow these rules:

  • Clear sound, no talking over the music
  • No copyrighted clips, video games, or still photos
  • Quick sharing, which also = more submissions!
  • Good quality content

RGI members will be paid 1.5x - 2.0x their base price, depending on which region they're from.

Influencers can apply to join this program by clicking the button at the bottom of their homepage feed. We'll be closely monitoring the shares of this group to make sure the quality stays high.

No more Instagram Stories

Okay, we know this is controversial. A lot of influencers enjoy sharing Stories, but after much deliberation we've decided to switch exclusively to Instagram Reels and TikTok videos. In general, we've noticed that the majority of our submitting artists are more interested in Reels (31%) and TikTok (46%) videos than Stories (23%).

Here are the two main reasons we're ending Stories:

1. It's almost impossible to verify a user's average Story views

For years we've been requesting screenshots, but this is tedious, and you wouldn't believe how many influencers try to share fake numbers 🙄

2. Stories only last 24 hours

This means after a day then there's nothing left for artists to show to their fanbase.

Price changes

Going forward, we're simplifying the pricing formula.

  • Competitive markets: $2.50 - $5.00 per 1,000 views
  • Less competitive regions: $1.00 - $1.50 per 1,000 views

We know that influencers have some posts that perform really well, and others that don't. It's unfair to base prices exclusively on the highest numbers, especially if it only happens once in every 5 shares. So, prices are based on an average of the "lower" numbers you almost always hit.

For example, the influencer in the screenshot below almost always gets at least 14,000 views. So, that's 14 * $1.00 = $14.00 per share. If she joins the "Really Good Influencers" program this amount will go up to $21.00.

Better genre filtering

One of the main reasons influencers decline submissions is because they don't like the song. Sometimes this is because of quality, but other times it's because the song is in a genre that is different to the influencer's tastes. We're now going to require that artists indicate what genre their song is, and give influencers the option to filter their submissions:

You'll find the genres section at the bottom of your settings.
