Hot or Not updates
We're heading toward the end of the year, so I'm trying to get as many tasks from my "wish list" done as I can. This week I spent a few coding sessions giving love to Hot or Not.
My primary goal here is to try and encourage exchange of *valuable* feedback, and I'm hoping these changes move things in a positive direction.
Verified Reviewers
Some people go above and beyond when writing feedback on Hot or Not, and I want to make sure that their efforts aren't going unnoticed.
Today we're rolling out a new feature called "Verified Reviewers." If you become one, here's what you can expect:
- For every 10 feedbacks you write you earn 1 premium credit (normally you get 1 per 20 feedbacks)
- Each feedback needs to be 10+ words long (normally it's 5+ words)
- You'll get a little badge next to your feedback when someone sees you reviewed their song
- Your feedback is still anonymous, so don't sweat that
- We do expect you to log in at least once a week to rate some songs
- If you don't, it's possible your badge will be revoked, but you can always reapply
- Over the coming months I'll add a few extra perks, eg coupons and bonuses
If you're keen to join the "Verified Reviewer" club you'll see an option to apply right below the feedback box on Hot or Not. Once you apply, our team will do a review of your feedback to make sure it's up to standard :)
UI / UX Changes
- The feedback box is now first in the flow, with the rating afterwards. I think it makes more sense to give a rating *after* you've spent some time thinking about a song, which is typically what feedback encourages
- Onboarding improvements
- As you can see in the screenshot above, there's a note for newcomers reminding them that feedback is anonymous
- The onboarding prompt concisely lays out why you might use Hot or Not
- First time users get a quick reminder of how it works while tackling their first song
- Moved the premium ratings below the overall rating
- Getting rid of the "bonus" language
- Historically, you earned 5 ratings for every 10 you dished out, but if you write feedback that becomes 7 for every 10 you review
- Since everyone's required to write feedback these days, the default is 7 and there's no need for the "bonus" language
- Also added a convenient little submit button next to your available balance
