Revamped Link creation and the start of SubmitHub Ads; Hot or Not updates; Spotify improvements.
It's been a little while since I've done one of these updates, so I'll try keep it to the interesting stuff that's happened in the last month. Between now and early December I'm gonna be coding my little butt off, which means you can expect a few more of these π
Links
- I revamped the creation flow for new Links
- There are now 3 ways to create a link
- If you choose to go with the Spotify option, I'll automatically build out a link for you based on all the information I can find (socials, other streaming platforms, etc)
- Some of you might have noticed something new I'm working on
- I've dedicated most of my code this week to an in-house Meta ads solution
- Will launch early beta next week and hopefully expand by month-end :)
- Deep linking for Spotify!
- This means if the user has the Spotify app installed, it should always open the app (rather than opening Instagram's built-in browser)
- As a user, you don't need to do anything. Simply use your Spotify links as normal, and in that back-end code I'll convert them to "spotify://" URLs on the end user's phone
- More granularity slicing historical data (previously just 30 days / 90 days)
- When analyzing geographic data, you can now view as a table (previously just a map)
- Email addresses are supported for social links (also added Threads)
- Improved UTM tracking and a few Conversions API tweaks
Hot or Not
- From your settings tab you can now exclude songs tagged as AI
- You can create ChatGPT summaries of your feedback
Spotify
- Added a "discovered on position" column to playlists, which shows what the position that the playlist appears in that artist's Discovered On section
- Improved the underlying script that searches for new Spotify songs on release day
- This is used to auto populate the links on SubmitHub so that playlisters can share
- You can now see historical data for Spotify listeners
Miscellaneous
- More stringent requirements on shout-outs (defined as sort of a decline, but with a share):
- Playlist must have at least 5 listeners and 100+ followers
- I'm using ChatGPT to review the feedback that curators leave for shout-outs. It should properly explain WHY it's not right for a proper share. This is proving to be 95% accurate
- Fixed issues with some of the APIs that I use, including SoundCloud login, Shorts, Moz, and TikTok
- Side note: I really don't like having functionality tied into 3rd party APIs - the more you use, the more spontaneously manifesting bugs you've got to chase
- From a UI standpoint, I put a bit of work into making sure that Playlist Checker, Links, Hot or Not, and What's My Genre all have fairly consistent spacing / formatting
- Redid the coupon interface when buying credits - this seemed to confuse people a bit, so hopefully it's clearer now
- Fixed a submission bug that allowed folks to bypass copyright restrictions when sending directly
- Someone kindly identified a few security issues (mostly around chats) that I patched up :)
- Curators can now "customize" the detail that shows up on their homepage feed
Right, those are the highlights. Tons of boring stuff going on behind the scenes as well, but I'm definitely excited about the SubmitHub Ads stuff that I'm working on :)
