[Changelog] September 2, 2022
Welcome to this week's update. Been a fairly productive one, though I've still got a million more things to do, not to mention a few "features".
Hot or Not
- I ran some numbers and found that 78% of users on Hot or Not are already writing feedback. I happen to think this is one of the most valuable elements of Hot or Not (a random rating without explanation is kinda useless). So, feedback is now required on all ratings 💜
- I've also tweaked the "Weighted Average" calculation to increase the deviation cushion around each user's average
- So for example, if someone has an average of 70 and rates your song 68, it won't count as "below average" because it's too close to the average
- On the raw numbers chart, I now show two decimal places to avoid confusion about people clustered around the same numbers
- We've got a backend script to catch "overfly generous" raters (those giving 97+ for every rating) so that we can talk to them. Today I've added a spin on that: catching artists who consistently rate below 3 because that's just mean
Submissions
- Every time you visit the curators or influencers pages, it loads lots of data. I've played around with optimizing this over the years, and last week I rolled out an update that actually slowed things down even more. Oops.
- The solution was to offload some of the heavier data to a 3rd party API so that it doesn't hog the main thread of the client-facing servers
- You can now see stats about a curator's preference for various moods. These numbers add up to > 100% because up to 3 moods can be used on each song
Referrals
- Last week we launched a new coupon referral system
- You can request an invite here
- This week's major "upgrade" is that you can now link your coupon code directly to your curator profile, which accomplishes my ultimate goal of combining our "widgets" with this new coupon program
- Next steps: start inviting more people :)
